going solar is a big decision – one life solar is here to help answer your questions and craft the right system for the way you live

There isn’t any “one size fits all” answer to solar. The list below is a sample of questions we receive most frequently, but it’s by no means complete – if you have any questions, big or small, not covered here, please get in touch with us today to get them answered!

How durable are the solar panels? Can they withstand hail?

Solar PV panels are surprisingly durable and can withstand hail. Solar panels will usually tolerate up to golf ball sized hail and actually protect the roof! Most manufacturers’ guarantee their solar panels to survive up to marble-sized hail, but the panels have proven even more durable in the real world.

Can solar really eliminate my electric bill?

Yes! We have many customers that have reduced their electric bill to zero. However, the amount of electricity usage reduced is different for every house and depends on the size of your system, roof configuration, and energy usage profile.

Do I need batteries?

No, batteries are not needed. 90% of the installs we do are grid-tied, net-metered systems without batteries. However, we can also include a battery bank as an add-on to supply electricity to specific appliances during a power outage. The battery bank can be installed during the original install or at a later date.

If I don’t have batteries, will I lose power at night or when it’s cloudy?

No, you will not experience power interruptions when the sun goes down or when it’s cloudy. Because the system is still connected to the grid, electricity will be available, whether via your solar panel production or your public utility.

How long will the system last? What is the warranty?

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels have a life expectancy of 40 to 50 years. The solar panels we install come with a 25-year warranty.

What type of maintenance is required?

Maintenance is minimal for a correctly installed system. This is why it’s so important to choose a knowledgeable solar professional like One Life Solar. A properly installed system will produce maintenance-free clean energy for decades! Regular cleaning and inspection (which we can provide) should be all that’s needed for years to come.

How long does the installation take?

Residential systems can usually be started within three weeks of the initial consultation. Installation typically takes between three and five business days, depending on weather conditions. Final inspection of the system and full operation will be dependent on permitting and building and safety departments, as well as availability of materials. It’s rare for a system installation to take more than 2-3 months from start to finish.

What if I want to replace my roof after the solar panels have been installed?

The solar panels can easily be taken off and re-installed if the roof needs to be replaced down the road. One Life Solar offers this service at a low price.
